Overview

A concert to ring in the Chinese New Year

The Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra wishes to greet you ‘A Happy, Successful Year of the Horse!’ with our concert on January 26, 2014, as the Chinese New Year is only five days away! On that evening, the City Hall Concert Hall will be warmly filled with a celebratory mood. The concert will open with The Spring Festival Overture, conducted by Yan Huichang, Artistic Director and Principal Conductor. It will be followed by Sui Lijun’s An Autumn Gathering by the Campfire with Cui Can on the zhongruan. It is a picture of happy harvest in the northern part of China. Next, for a slight change of mood, there is Heartstrings, a monochord zither solo performed by Han Jingna. Then, to tie in with the zodiac theme, there would be Chan Wing-wah’s Eight Steeds. Our special guest for the concert is Amy Wu, renowned for her sweet voice. She will be singing golden oldies Endless Words, Water Lilies in Bloom on a Silvery Pond and With Best Wishes, partnering with Hsin Hsiao-hung, Erhu Principal of the Orchestra, on the erhu. Maestro Yan will wrap up with the joyful medley of Chinese New Year songs, entitled Best of Luck for the New Year.

Gong Xi Fa Cai, everyone!
