Established in 2006 in Seoul, I MAESTRI is a choir with 60 professional male opera singers in their 30s and 40s. The collective, with members trained in Europe and in North America, has performed extensively in the region, including at the 2008 Korean President inauguration, the same year at the Tokyo Suntory Hall, 2009 in Nakhodka and Vladivostok, Russia, 2010 at National Concert Hall, Taipei, and 2012 at the National Centre for the Performing Arts, Beijing. Japanese music critics described them as “a ‘voice orchestra’ of harmonious sound, rather than a mere choir”. The collective will be making their Hong Kong debut at Asia Society Hong Kong Center with a special repertoire of traditional Korean folk songs, classical opera and Broadway tunes. Join us for a contemporary Korean treat for the senses, and be prepared to be “thrilled from the first note”.
