Overview
This is a unique workshop specifically design for English or Drama teachers. It aims to emerge participants in a playful, creative and rigorous approaches to performing and teaching Shakespeare. The core material we use throughout the course will be the play text of ‘Othello’, which is part of the DSE English Literature Curriculum in Hong Kong.
We know that students get the most out of Shakespeare’s plays when they approach them in the way actors do – to get on their feet, actively exploring the text and unlocking its meaning. In this course, an emphasis on TEXT and VOICE will be given to our participants in order to create an immersive experience of text and voice work that an actor does when they interpret Shakespeare’s language. The process of exploration of the language will be from a physical as well as vocal approach. Participants will also gain a deeper understanding on the journeys of the characters as well as the themes and motifs of the play through acting exercises.
This course will enable participants to:
Teach and perform Shakespeare more effectively
Broaden and deepen their subject knowledge
Be inspired to share your passion for Shakespeare with students
