Kelvin Mak

Kelvin Mak, the Artistic Director of Beyond Dance Theater (BDT), is an international dance artist. He joined City Contemporary Dance Company (CCDC) in 2013 and was invited as a guest artist at Atamira Dance Company in New Zealand from 2016 to 2017. From 2018 to 2019, he joined Ballet Preljocaj in France and later as a guest choreographer at Delattre Dance Company in Germany. He was nominated for the "Outstanding Performance by a Male Dancer" award at the Hong Kong Dance Awards in 2016 for his performance in "Soledad" and won the same award the following year for "Mother I Am Sorry." In 2022, his work "Remnants" received the Hong Kong Dance Awards for “Tom Brown Emerging Choreographer” and "Outstanding Medium Venue Production." His performances have been praised by the South China Morning Post. In 2023, the productions "The Wind Of Empty" and "Train of Thoughts" were nominated for the Hong Kong Dance Awards in the categories of "Outstanding Medium Venue Production" and "Outstanding Small Venue Production." He was also awarded the “Hong Kong Arts Development Award - Award for Young Artist (Dance)” by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council in 2023, becoming a sought-after contemporary dance artist and choreographer in Asia.

Kelvin has led Beyond Dance Theater and performed in various international cities and countries. His choreographed works include "Lies In Waiting", "Echoes Within" "1001 Times", “The Products of”, “In The Wind”, “The Last Stone”, “MUM”, "Remnants”, “The Wind Of Empty”, “Castle Of Glass”, “Temple Faith”, "Train of Thoughts," and "For C.", “Re Four Seasons” etc. "In The Wind", "The Product Of" and "Lies In Waiting" have been invited to perform in various regions in China. In 2023, his piece "Shepherd Run_way" was invited to perform at the 2023 Want To Dance Festival in Taiwan.

In terms of education and dance promotion, Kelvin has been invited to conduct workshops and master classes at art festivals, dance companies, and studios in different countries and cities. He co-produced the Hong Kong Contemporary Dance Winter Camp in 2018 and served as the co-producer of "Think Out Of The Box" in 2021 and 2023.
