Overview

A new generation of Hong Kong dance artists are now shaping Hong Kong’s contemporary dance scene. The nine captivating works showcased at the JOCKEY CLUB New Arts Power have been performed overseas, brought to the international arena by HKADC. These artists demonstrate the vibrancy of Hong Kong’s modern dance and are promising to lead the dance scene in future.

Chloe Wong
Heaven Behind the Door II
The piece weaves together dance, text and projection to form a poetic world. Everyone is unique, although the society educates us to think otherwise. If everyone can preserve their own sanctuary – be it a belief, a place, a principle – the power can be tremendous!

Yang Hao
Outspoken
Outspoken is a reflection on the limits of dance as a means of expression. In some aspects dance is weaker than writing or speaking. Therefore the piece has a second person on stage to play a writer, speaking the local language. Outspoken is Yang’s first collaboration with dramaturge Alice Rensy.

Hugh Cho
Made in Hong Kong
Made in Hong Kong stems from problems which are often faced by the 80’s generations: How to live with sensitivity instead of merely surviving in a fast-moving society? Youngsters are often radically different from the old. People should never ignore such conflicts and complexities. The work bridges generation gap to stimulate audience’s reflection.

Keep calm and carry on.
