Chung Yin Sze

After graduating from the Chinese University of Hong Kong with a Master’s Degree in East-West Drama and The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with an Advanced Diploma in Playwrighting, Chung was invited to joined The Hong Kong Repertory Theatre in 2008-2010 as an literary officer, and worked with artists around the world as a dramaturge.
She is now a freelance writer-director, translator and educator. Her major creative works include New Vision Art Festival’s “Missing Link”, “Hunger Artist”, “I Sell Love”(Premiere and Re-run), Hong Kong Arts Festival’s “Recycling Times”, Musical “Animal Farm” (Both Cantonese and English versions) and “Age of Aquarius”. “A Kid’s Story”, her play about children with Autism was nominated for best writing in The 3rd Hong Kong Theatre Libre.
Her translation works include Joe Orten’s “What the Butler Saw”, Lillian Hellman’s “The Children’s Hour”, Johnathan Holloway’s adaptation of Victor Hugo’s “Les Miserables”, Carlo Goldini’s “The New Apartment”, William McNulty’s adaptation of Bram Stroker’s “Dracula”, Neil Simon’s “Barefoot in the Park”, WAAPA’s “Cloudstreet”, Christopher Durang’s “Beyond Therapy”, John Steinbeck’s “Of Mice and Men”, and her own published work “Recycling Times”.

Her feature film writing credits include “Wondermama”(2015) and “Trivisa”(2016). “I Sell Love”, a theatre work she directed and co-wrote in 2010, was made into a feature film of the same title in 2014.

She is also a part-time lecturer on playwrighting, genres of drama, and creative process for several tertiary institutions including The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, The Education University of Hong Kong, and The Open University of Hong Kong.

She passed away due to illness in 2021 unfortunately. Later, her posthumous work "The Beauty of Fuchsias: the last reflections of the playwright Harriet Chung" was published, accompanied by her representative script "A Kid Story" (Chinese / English version).
