May 10th and 11th 2018 are important dates for your diary. The whole school production of Peter Rose and Anne Conlon’s Ocean World will hit the stage of the YCIS auditorium! Directed by Deborah McNally and produced by Amar Sharma, this ecological musical is based on the original BBC television series ‘Blue Planet’. In this adaptation, the audience are invited to follow the journey of a mother whale as she traverses the polluted and dangerous waters of the ocean with her newborn calf.
This truly is a whole school production with all aspects of the show being developed and created at YCIS. The founding work for this cross curricular production has been achieved through various CCA’s during this semester. With everything from Hip-Hop to choral based narration; classical dance to puppet making; street dance to lighting design this is promising to be quite an eclectic show.
The enthusiasm seen in the various CCA’s (cross curricular activities) demonstrates how the environmental theme has caught the attention of the students and teachers alike. It is an issue which is part of our lives and part of our very existence so exploring it in a variety of ways and creating an arts based outcome makes it exciting and accessible for all.
