Overview

The impetus of Jacky Cheung Tsz-ki’s first solo exhibition “Whence it comes” springs from his fascination with ambiguity. Marked by its elusiveness and tranquility, his art engenders a mode of viewing that focuses on prolonged contemplation and individual reflection. Viewing his works is much like gazing at the ocean: instead of finding out what the waters look like, one lets their eyes idle on the calm sea.

Artist Statement
Art resembles a pronoun, just as the “I” here refers to the author while “you” is the reader. Like a sign, it points to a memory, a distant past, or simply a sentiment. My works may feature objects or landscapes—but that does not matter. Instead of finding ways to express or organise ideas, I look for subjects that represent transient moments in my imagination.

About Jacky Cheung Tsz-ki
Cheung graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2018.
Some people use art as a way to map out their nationality and identity; some seeks the meaning of life through doubting art; and some sees art as a source of emotional sustenance. Cheung is still searching for the reason why he makes art.

HKOP Award in Printmaking
In order to encourage young printmakers to show their talents, Hong Kong Open Printshop Award in Printmaking was established in 2017. There are 3 awardees this year: Glo Chan Cheuk-yan, Jacky Cheung Tsz-ki and Jeannie Wong Ho-ching.
