Overview

If we could only love at first sight, we shall miss our destiny.

Whether the possibility of romance for the pride and the prejudice is zero, or they are made for each other?

Back to Hong Kong in the 1950s, four young and charming daughters of the well-off middle class Pak family live with their parents in Happy Valley. The mother is eager to marry off her four daughters to wealthy families. At a grand party, Ka-wai, the second daughter of Pak family meets the handsome Mr Tat-chi. The enchanting party setting is conducive to romantic love and they seem a perfect match…

Instead, the first encounter is a hard crash. Ka-wai takes an instant dislike to the arrogant heir of a wealthy and prominent family. When Cupid fires his arrow, will they be blinded by prejudice and manage to escape or struck to fall in love?

As a special programme for Chung Ying’s 40th anniversary celebration, the play is an adaptation of the classic English romantic novel Pride and Prejudice by the famous translator and playwright, Rupert Chan. To highlight our unique eastern and western literary background, Rupert exquisitely combines both Chinese and Western elements in his play, demonstrating Hong Kong as a place where East meets West in the 1950s and how romantic love grows from zero to infinity.
