Overview

A form of prison labour in the early colonial days, bookbinding remains a vocational training option offered by the Correctional Services to people under its custody.

Tai Kwun 101 x Bookbinding Experience (11:15am–1:15pm)
This workshop invites participants to tour the Tai Kwun 101 exhibition before learning bookbinding. Referencing the cover of one of the exhibits, paper artist Because Yeung will lead participants in using the Japanese bookbinding method to create their own vintage notebook. Participants will produce a notebook of around 100 pages (20x15cm).

Soft Case Coptic Stitch Bookbinding Experience (3pm–5pm)
This workshop introduces participants to Coptic stitch binding. One of the oldest and most complex methods of bookbinding, it is celebrated for the meticulous threaded patterns of its book spines. Participants will produce a notebook of around 80 pages (10x15cm).
