Alison Lau.

Born and raised in Hong Kong, soprano Alison Lau is one of the most promising singers of her generation. She obtained her Master’s Degree from the New England Conservatory of Music, Boston in 2015. Prior to her training in the United States, she graduated with a Bachelor of Music from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.

Alison was recently awarded the “Gerhart Hauptmann-Theater” Special Prize at the 22nd Concorso Internazionale per Cantanti Lirici Spazio Musica in Orvieto, Italy. In 2016, she won the First Prize at Yokohama International Music Competition in Japan, and in 2014, she was awarded the Third Prize – Outstanding Performance Award – at the Metropolitan International Music Festival Vocal Competition in New York.

An avid concert singer with a special interest for art songs and the baroque repertoire, Alison enjoys her career on the recital, concert, and opera stages. She has performed principal roles in operas such as Cosi fan tutte, Le Nozze di Figaro, La Bohème, and Dido and Aeneas. Her performance as Helena in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream was acclaimed by Time Out Magazine “with great promise dramatically and vocally”.

As one of the most sought-after singers in Hong Kong, Ms. Lau is frequently invited to perform with Opera Hong Kong, Music Lab, Die Konzertisten, and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. Highlights of the 2016/17 season included her début at Wilton’s Music Hall in London, performing Bach’s St. John Passion. In October 2017, she made her début in Germany, singing five concerts of Brahms’ A German Requiem. Her performance garnered critical acclaim from local media, “Alison Lau’s pure tone, her natural approach and her perfectly crafted pronunciation captured the audience.”
