“The Happy Family”, a collaboration of a novel of the same title, music and projection, premiered in October 2021 as part of Tai Kwun’s "SPOTLIGHT: A Season of Performing Arts". Selected entries in the “Gumbo at home” open call for drawings were displayed at the venue, showcasing Gumbo’s toys, home environment, and the monster that haunts him in different drawing styles. After the performance and exhibition, Wong Yi, novelist for “The Happy Family”, created a bonus chapter for the audio novel inspired by elements from these drawings. In “Gumbo and the Large-mouthed Monster”, Gumbo and his favourite purple sock from the drawings joins Maria in another imaginative adventure against a large-mouthed monster in the house: how will Gumbo and Maria respond this time?
