1) B.A. Graduate Exhibition "Before It Billows Out":
Even the most precise timepieces can only measure secular time. Even the most rapid mechanical civilization cannot replace a redemption of faith. We challenge the notion of life as a product of technical validation, and we believe that worth should be created by true individual selves instead.
Before the last ripple dissipates, thirty-one of us witness the waves from our land, calling for those who are aware of the undercurrent. Each self (ego) stands at the crown of the ocean, devoutly welcoming the consciousness that embraces levitation, answering the Creator's mission.
The 2023 graduation exhibition of the Fine Arts Department of The Chinese University of Hong Kong is titled "Before It Billows Out". Being trapped in a bewildering maze, this year's graduates reflect upon their loss of faith. Every work symbolizes a single water droplet — despite its seemingly weak potency, together they create ripple in the stagnant water. Unfolding the beneficence and malevolence in our society, they shed light on the urgency of responding to the present in the form of art, standing their ground and staying sensitive in perceiving the world nowadays.
