6th Hong Kong International Egyptian Dance Festival - Halawet Raqsena Live 2023 ( The Dance of Joy Fundraising Gala )Dance For Life

Back for the 6th time, the Dance for Life Gala will feature internationally renowned dancers and musicians from Egypt, Japan and China. This is a rare opportunity to see the full scope of Egyptian cultural dance, lead by three Egyptian teachers from the National Folklore Dance (Kaumeya) Troupe of Egypt.

Dance for Life will show so much more than the "belly dance" you may be familiar with. Egyptian dance is as diverse as the styles found across China. Experience multiple styles of dance, accompanied by live Egyptian music. Enjoy Nubian Dance, a slow but colourful and upbeat dance found in Southern Egypt. Watch a modern Shaabi during which dancers incorporate black scarves called melaya leff into their movements. The show will also showcase the melodic spinning dance of Tonoura.

The Dance For Life is a fundraising event, and all proceeds will be donated to Dance for Life, a registered charity in Hong Kong. Established in 2022, Dance for Life is committed to promoting the culture of dancing and dance therapy. The founder of Dance for Life, May Cheung, is a professional physiotherapist and dance teacher, aiming to empower people by dance therapy and exert a positive impact on society.

Dance For Life is currently running free programmes for the community of Hong Kong.
