Yrellag Gallery is proud to present “Beyond the Frame”, a solo exhibition by Hong Kong artist Lam Hau-yi, curated by Cheung Yung, showcasing five sets of ceramics and prints, capturing the artist's everyday habits while navigating the city. Through the perspective of window frames, Lam offers a glimpse of cityscapes, transforming the bustling and chaotic city into moments of tranquillity.

Tung Chuin, Glimpses of Gardens in Eastern China

In the past, Chinese garden served as places of seclusion, offering brief respite from reality. Like a great hermit living in seclusion in the city, the artist views the city as her own garden, roaming through it. The landscapes in her vision are fragmented and blurred, chopped by the framed wall openings. Yet just beyond each wall, every narrow window view opens expansively, seeming to illuminate a way forward from darkness into light. Through these apertures, shifting views with each step, she aims to record the movement of her gaze by depicting the continuous narrative space and scope of vision. The accidental material variations become enticing unknowns, leaving the wall openings blank and undefined.
