Overview

Building on the achievements of the first year, "Institute of Imagination" brings new resources and creative opportunities to the performing arts community, showcasing greater possibilities. The project aims to recruit more promising innovative artists and provide funding for experimental projects that are still in the trial stage and seeking breakthroughs. It aims to gather and showcase the results of these experiments, paving the way for better development of future works.
The jury have selected three proposals after a month long open call. They will be presented in the format of an work-in-progress showcase on January 2024.

1. 泥土仙人 “The Exosomatisation of Skin” 2024-01-10 ( 8:00 PM )

“The Exosomatisation of Skin” inspired by the life experiences of its creator, Lam Lut Yu, in Hong Kong and Taiwan. The team utilizes Vat PhotoPolymerization to create a new form of theatrical expression. Lam Lut Yu will showcase three psychological landscapes that emerged during her personal psychotherapy, exploring how individuals can reconnect with their surroundings.

2. Vivian Wong "A Hundred Minutes with Blank Papers" 2024-01-12 ( 8:00 PM )

In the year 2053, paper is a national first-class protected asset, and it is strictly forbidden for the public to keep paper in their possession. A pair of sisters accidentally find a stack of white paper in their home that is about to be visited by a strange visitor, therefore urges them to start a discussion and experiment on the papers.
A Hundred Minutes with Blank Papers is a story that explores paper as a carrier and material in an alternate era to rediscover the possibilities of physical paper, while questioning the boundaries, power, and roles of the performers, documentators, and spectators through a mixed-media live performance.

3. Florence Lam “Nvwa and her Lost Child” 2024-01-14 ( 8:00 PM )

Performance artist Florence Lam's “Nvwa and her Lost Child” is the first step of a long-term project. By connecting the mythological origin of the Goddess of Nvwa’s creation of man with the "loneliness" she herself experienced during an abortion five years ago, the artist seeks to understand the omnipotent emotions of mythological imaginings and beliefs about human's origin and demise, and to transform them through actions and material processes, in order to contemplate the motivations and meanings of female reproductive power, both on a biological and a spiritual level.
