Overview

"Intimacy of the Digital Age Expressed in Monochromatic Blue Tones"

The Stroll Gallery, a Hong Kong-based venue that has been introducing the works of Korean artists, will host a solo exhibition of Jiyoon Jeong, title "Ambiguous Intimacy 這麼近 那麼遠" from June 8 to August 3. The exhibition will feature around 20 artworks that showcase the artist's original interpretation of digital imagery and relationships these days.

Jeong's practice of reconstructing found web images mirrors the process of modern online relationship formation. Rather than simply duplicating the images, the artist focuses on the formal elements like the figures' postures, expressions, and states, reinterpreting them through the language of painting. The monochromatic blue tones and the dripping paint washes remove the visual characteristics of the original photographs, elevating them from the photographic to the painterly realm.

This distortion and recontextualization of the source material enables active engagement from the viewer, opening up new possibilities for communication and relationship building. The gazes, smiles, and sensory qualities of the monochromatic compositions evoke a sense of familiarity, allowing the audience to discover intimacy within the otherwise unfamiliar images.
