Reunification · Carving · Dreams: Yo Shing Art ExhibitionThe University of Hong Kong Libraries

Overview

Yo Shing, originally named Zhang Xingxiong, is a famous Hong Kong sculptor. He is passionate about calligraphy, painting, and pottery, and is particularly skilled in bamboo and wood engraving. In 2002, he was sponsored by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council to hold a solo sculpture exhibition. He has participated in the carving work of the large plaques for "Heart Sutra Forest" on Lantau Island and the "Tsz Shan Monastery". His sculptures "Reunification" and "Indomitable Spirit" were selected for the 11th and 12th National Art Exhibitions respectively. He is currently the art consultant for many schools, institutions and organizations, and has been invited to teach sculpture and pottery courses in various schools. He is the president of the Hong Kong Calligraphy Art Society and a member/consultant of several art groups. He currently operates the "Yo Shing Art Workshop" to engage in professional art creation and teaching.

Since the reunification, the Hong Kong art community holds a National Day and Reunification Exhibition every year. Teacher Yo Shing uses Hong Kong's development history as the blueprint to create a large-scale sculpture or pottery work to celebrate and commemorate each National Day and Reunification Anniversary.

This year marks the 75th National Day and the 27th anniversary of Hong Kong's reunification, as well as the 111th anniversary of the University of Hong Kong Library. Teacher Yo Shing is exhibiting his years of National Day and Reunification creations, as well as over 40 years of artistic works, at the University of Hong Kong Library Main Library. Visitors are welcome.
