The roots of Theatre du Pif’s work can be traced back to the training of its two artistic directors. Bonni studied with Philippe Gaulier in London and Sean studied at the Ecole Jacques Lecoq in Paris. Both teachers had a profound influence on Theatre du Pif’s approach to theatre making none more so than in their early devised productions such as Fish Heads and Tales, Metamorphosis and The Overcoat.
The aim of this workshop is to offer participants an introduction to the Lecoq pedagogy. We will explore some of the principles of Lecoq-based work that uses movement and the body as inspiration as well as exploring the link between the Feldenkrais Method and Lecoq‘s neutral mask—a mask that embodies calm, grounding, balance and readiness.
Jacques Lecoq was one of the most imaginative, influential, and pioneering teachers of theatre in the 20th century and he used the neutral mask as a pivotal tool in his pedagogy.
Sean Curran is the co-artistic director of Theatre du Pif. He studied with Jacques Lecoq in Paris from 1989 to 1991.
