Genevieve Wong

Pianist Genevieve Wong is an artist "gifted of the hand, soul and vision", hailed by renowned pianist Russell Sherman. A concert pianist, chamber musician and educator, Miss Wong was Prizewinner of the Young Musicians' Competition organized by the Five Towns Music and Art Foundation in New York. She studied at New England Conservatory of Music and at The Juilliard School, where she received her Master of Music degree in Piano Performance.

Miss Wong's artistry and commitment have taken her to the concert stages in the U.S. and Asia, including appearances at the Lincoln Center in New York and in various cities across China - Tianjin, Xuzhou, Shantou and Shenzhen, as well as in Singapore and in her hometown Hong Kong. In addition to giving performances as soloist, Miss Wong has collaborated with internationally acclaimed violinist Zhu Dan on many occasions in duo recitals and performances in the mainland and in Hong Kong. She has also made studio and live recordings with members of the Hong Kong Philharmonic, including recording the complete Brahms Sonatas for Violin and Piano on RTHK.

Alongside appearing as recording artist on Radio 4, Miss Wong has given solo and chamber music concerts presented by the Hong Kong Leisure and Cultural Services Department. She has performed at the Hong Kong City Hall, Tsuen Wan Town Hall, Tuen Mun City Hall, the University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University and the University of Science and Technology. Additionally, Miss Wong has collaborated with the Hong Kong University Orchestra on several occasions. She taught at the Hong Kong Baptist University and frequently served on the jury for competitions, including among them the Steinway & Sons International Youth Piano Competition.

During her residence in the U.S., Miss Wong has had the privilege of studying with many great artists; among them were German Diez, Jacob Lateiner, Seymour Lipkin, Martin Canin and Russell Sherman.

Miss Wong grew up in Hong Kong where she took her first piano lesson at the age of four. She is an alumna of Diocesan Girls' School where she studied for eleven years. She is indebted to her alma mater for giving her the opportunity to perform for the very first time in her life at morning assembly when she was in primary two. The kind words, warmth and approval of the headmistress that were ingrained in her memory after she finished playing had remained a lasting source of encouragement to this day. Recently she had the pleasure of returning to Diocesan Girls' Junior School to be interviewed by primary six students for their music project and to advise on their musical paths. Miss Wong continues to devote herself to teaching and performing in the hopes of sharing the beauty and joy that music brings.
