Against life's unstoppable currents, some drift away in surrender, while others wage their lonely battles in cornered defiance, seeking just one ray of light at the brink of despair.
𝑲𝒔𝒂𝒏𝒂 𝒐𝒇 𝑰𝒎𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆, a contemporary music concert presented by FIRST HALF Arts in Concept, is the fourth work curated by ICY LAI. The concert features the highly acclaimed pianist Daniel Chu, known for his jazz sensibility with avant-garde prowess, alongside composer Austin Leung, with whom ICY LAI has collaborated three times. Themed around the symbolic concept of a "tower" in life, the concert invites the audience to delve into the depths of spirituality through music, and to rediscover the fragments of light lost within our souls.
The curator incorporates visual artist Sharon Lee's new work "Greener Rice on the Other Side" into the theatrical space through movement and digital media, weaving it together with performing arts. The show opens with a solo movement performance by Common Ground dance company founder Kenny Leung, followed by video design studio dirtywork's digital transformation of the visual artwork, reconstructing it from a three-dimensional perspective and bringing it before the audience on the grand stage.
*Post-performance artist talk available on 23 January 2025
**Greener Rice on the Other Side" by Sharon Lee is commissioned by WMA. Its inclusion in this programme is by courtesy of the artist and WMA.
