Overview

This year, KINO in Hong Kong presents a carefully curated selection of current German films that showcase the German film landscape in all its diversity and with all its different facets.

The series opens with the debut film BEYOND THE BLUE BORDER by Sarah Neumann, in which the quest for freedom, the drama of change and the hope for a better future come together in the final months of the GDR. The program includes a variety of work by emerging filmmakers and established directors. We are particularly pleased that Sara Summa will be presenting her European road movie ARTHUR & DIANA in person in Hong Kong.

This year, KINO also looks beyond Germany to German-language film. In collaboration with the Swiss Consulate General, 8 DAYS IN AUGUST by Samuel Perriard will be shown as part of the Swiss Month. The Austrian Night, in cooperation with the Austrian Consulate General, presents ANDREA GETS DIVORCE by Josef Hader.

A special highlight of the KINO program is the homage to German actress Sandra Hüller, whose unmistakable talent has made her one of the biggest names in contemporary German cinema. Hüller, who was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role in 2024, can be seen in five selected films.

A diverse and exciting KINO program awaits you, with numerous discoveries and surprises in store!
