Knocking the Dust Off

At the street's turn, where secrets lie,
Between old tenements, the neon sighs,
A room drenched in pink, where shadows play,
Belonging to women, lost in the fray.

Customers ring, a fleeting sound,
Minutes slip by, then they're gone, unbound.
Behind the door, a gaze worn and grey—
Habit and numbness in the light of day.

Picking up pieces, a heart hard to mend,
One smile at a time, a mask to defend.
Yet in the cracks, a soft knock appears,
A stranger's touch shatters the layers of fears.

With each gentle tap, the dust starts to fall,
Breaking the silence, a whisper, a call.
In this hidden world where stories unfold,
A new kind of warmth in the hearts that feel cold.

In the vast city, we seldom notice the women in the sex industry waiting at various corners outside. The general public holds many misconceptions about this group, often viewing them through a distorted lens and overlooking their true needs in life. Knocking the Dust Off is organised by a local Christian organisation, Glance Ministry, which serves women in Hong Kong's sex industry. Through the paintings and mixed media works of 11 artists, the exhibition explores the worlds inside and outside the door, the labels placed upon these women, and the revelation of their genuine needs. The aim is to open a door for the audience to enter the real world of this community. This door represents waiting and hope, as well as welcome and revelation. Are you willing to learn about the stories behind this door?
