Happy-Go-Lucky bigband is going to bring a new sound of big band music through these 2 concerts.
In the first half of the show, the big band will perform a series of original works from modern big bands, which includes original pieces by modern jazz legends such as the WDR Big Band, the Maria Schneider Orchestra, The 8-Bit Big Band, and Pat Metheny.
These works will showcase the diversity of a big band through its traditional sound in different styles such as movie soundtracks, rock music, video game and anime soundtracks, as well as pieces that capture the essence of jazz, offering both musicians and audiences a refreshing experience.
In the second half of the program, Happy-Go-Lucky bigband would like to present the sound of local composers and arrangers by using big band as a medium. First, Happy-Go-Lucky bigband will perform works by the renowned local musician Patrick Lui, who is considered a pioneer and admired by many young composers in original big band music in Hong Kong. Following this, Happy Go Lucky will present original big band pieces from young composers such as Sum Cheng, Joshua Lam, Eason Chan, and Ng Lok Hin.
Through this concert, we would like to show the audience how the "old medium" ( the jazz big band ) adapts to the modern musical landscape. After all, jazz big bands were usually formed to serve the dancers back in the old days.
