"The Whisper of Absence" work-in-progress - Gordan Wong (Hong Kong)
A Solo Performance of a Microhistory of Immigration Across Three Generations and Four Lands
A child dreams of studying abroad;
a swimmer journeys from north to south.
Brothers quarrel, severing ties;
a young man, holding a red packet, seeks his family name.
Two generations clash over choices,
while an elder quietly awaits others' search.
Gordon Wong travels to England, documenting the long-hidden family history,
in pursuit of a relative who has never met in his life.
From Chinese traditions, he embarks on an age-old "root-seeking" journey.
Will this solo quest and recorded journey reach the long-desired destination?
Approximately 50 minutes.
In Cantonese.
Suitable for ages 12 or above.
Free Seating.
