Overview

Etched in the body are traces of the artistic process, as each dance movement bears witness to the march of time.

Hong Kong Dance Company selects seven representative original dance excerpts epitomising 45 years of solid foundation and innovative tradition, featuring the struggles and resistance of women caught in history from Helen Lai's Reveries of the Red Chamber, the sprightly spring of Xie Yin's Tale of Three Cities, and Yang Yuntao's stylistically diverse output with the Zen tranquillity in Shan Shui, poignant elegance in Everlasting Love, powerful momentum in The Legend of Lanling, the literati pleasures of After Snowfall, as well as the soulful and rhythmic A Dance of Drumming Pulses with co-choreographer Zara Huang.

Of the multiple accolades our dance works have garnered through the years, Whispers of the Pines received the 13th China Dance Lotus Awards for Contemporary Dance. It was also selected for support by the China National Arts Fund 2025 for small-scale productions. Reveries of the Red Chamber was recognised at the 2017 Hong Kong Dance Awards for “Outstanding Medium Venue Production”, “Outstanding Choreography”, “Outstanding Set Design” and “Outstanding Sound Design”. The Legend of Lanling claimed the 2025 Hong Kong Dance Awards for “Outstanding Lighting Design”.

Every dance bears testament to creativity along the passage of time. They are records of every step of artistic achievement for Hong Kong Dance Company.
