"Like Water, Like Clouds" is an improvised audiovisual ritual that invites audiences to experience softness as a radical act through the cultivation and expression of Qigong.
In our fast-paced and dissociative reality, "Like Water, Like Clouds" offers a transformative encounter with softness in all its forms. Using a custom-designed paintbrush instrument, which translates the fluid gestures of Chinese calligraphy into a richly-textured spatial sonic landscape, this interdisciplinary performance becomes a space that invites slowness through combining traditional and contemporary practices, underscored by the frequencies of Tibetan singing bowls (played by special guest performance Sammi Leung).
**Pre-performance workshop**
Discover how physical computing and gestural sensors transform movement into sonic expression, and learn the basics of prototyping your own experimental instrument. Participants will also have the opportunity to co-create Chinese characters through sound using the Sonochrome, a custom gestural performance tool that translates touch and motion into living, evolving soundscapes.
The workshop will conclude with an open Q&A.
