Overview

While we might not be able to go out for a journey in the early summer holiday this year, “Ensemble Transience: Composition & Improvisation–Encore” organizes online music activities for families and kids. “Online Family Music Camp: Jazz at Home” caters a series of educational workshops to parents and young children, which can be joined at the comfort of your home.

We invite local music educators and groups to host a variety of activities, including African music sing-along and dances, jazz standard singing and recording workshop, upcycling percussion instruments and music making, as well as storytelling sessions of jazz picture books.

All workshops will be conducted on Zoom. You may select sessions that you are interested in to sign up for. Each child must be accompanied by a parent to participate in the workshops.

This music camp is part of “Ensemble Transience: Composition & Improvisation—Encore”, financially supported by the Arts Capacity Development Funding Scheme of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. 🔴 Music at Your Hand: Turn Daily Objects into Instruments!
Date/ Time: 2022-4-17, 2:30pm-3:45pm
Music is limitless. It is not only musical instruments that we can play music with, on the contrary, what we can use to make music are instruments. Daily objects like chopsticks, glass bottles, tin boxes, plastic buckets, and plastic bags, given their different materials and sizes, can create different sounds and pitches.
Instead of throwing away these items after their initial uses, we can explore the unique sounds that can be made with them and turn these mundane objects into ready-made instruments.
In this workshop, participants will look for household items that are usually seen to be disposable, be creative and renovate them into unique music instruments. The facilitators are also going to guide participants in a series of percussive rhythms and play as an ensemble along with light-hearted music.

Language: Cantonese
Target: Children aged 6-10 and parents
Fee: $100
*Participants shall prepare the following: 1. A pair of chopsticks (as drum sticks); 2. Your choice of a few pieces of daily utilities that are made of different materials and are in different sizes.
