This master class offers a rare opportunity for Hong Kong participants to learn traditional Japanese natural indigo dyeing from Kaji Kakuo, the founding member of Japanese craft collective BUAISOU.
The workshop is designed for intermediate level participants with experience working with natural dyes to refine their skills in resist dye techniques with traditional Japanese natural dye sukumo.
The master class will be conducted over two consecutive Saturdays. On the first day, participants will be able to experience making a dye vat with BUAISOU. After a week of fermentation, participants will return and learn to dye 3 handkerchiefs using katazome, itajime shibori and shibori techniques.
Tutor: BUAISOU team and Kakuo Kaji (Founding member of BUAISOU)
Experience level: Suitable for participants aged 18 or above, preferably who has experience in and basic skills of natural dye.
Materials needed: All materials will be provided, including handkerchiefs.
