Hitting the stage first will be Mambo Inn, a Latin jazz band active in clubs and concerts in Japan, with members from different countries. They will perform an intriguing and swinging mixture of originals and fascinating arrangements of standards from all genres, infused with a unique band sound forged by its members’ eclectic musical influences and experiences.

The second half will feature a trio led by French accordion master Marc Berthoumieux, starring Italian jazz pianist Giovanni Mirabassi, who has recorded two albums "In Other Words" (2011) and "Le Bal des Mondes" (2018) for him and now lives in Paris.

Jazz Marathon 2023: Jacob Karlzon & Viktoria Tolstoy Duo / Jacob Karlzon Trio

A Swedish night featuring vocalist Viktoria Tolstoy and piano virtuoso Jacob Karlzon!

Viktoria Tolstoy is a great melodramatist of jazz. Pat Metheny even complimented on her singing: "When you sing, the sun rises.” In the first set of performance, she will be joined by Jacob Karlzon, who has been her accompanist for more than 20 years.

Karlzon, whose music sits at the intersection of cool Scandinavian sensibilities (space, melancholy and sensitivity) and their emotional opposites (heat and passion), will be joined by Morten Ramsbøl on bass and Rasmus Kihlberg on drums as a trio in the second set.

Jazz Marathon 2023: Francesco Cafiso Duo / Wolfgang Haffner "4 Of A Kind"

One of the most precocious talents in the history of Jazz, Francesco Cafiso is an award-winning Italian saxophonist and was barely nine years old when he took his first steps on the stage, working with musicians of international acclaim. In the first set of the concert, he will be joined by the 20-year-old American jazz pianist Esteban Castro who captivates audiences and critics with performances that are intimate and sophisticated beyond his young years.

Wolfgang Haffner is a well-known German jazz drummer and composer in the international world of music. His combination of skills and artistry made him the most important drummer from Germany of his generation. He will be leading his quartet “4 Of A Kind”, performing music from 3 of his acclaimed albums “Kind Of Tango”, “Kind Of Cool” & “Kind Of Spain” for the second set of the performance.

Jazz Marathon 2023: Kurt Rosenwinkel "The Chopin Project"

“The Chopin Project” presented by legendary jazz guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel and acclaimed Swiss pianist Jean-Paul Brodbeck, is a collaborative reinterpretation of Chopin’s music for jazz quartet, featuring Jorge Rossy on drums and Lukas Traxel on bass. It explores Chopin’s timelessly romantic music, and traces the indelible marks it has made on jazz improvisation.
