(In English)
It feels like just yesterday when, in 2014, the city awoke to the news that Elim Chan had won the Donatella Flick Conducting Competition, making her the first from Hong Kong to achieve this honour. Since then, Elim has captivated audiences worldwide with her interpretations of both classical and contemporary repertoires, leading prestigious orchestras such as the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic, London Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, and Royal Scottish National Orchestra. Her opening concerts for the BBC Proms, Hollywood Bowl, and the Salzburg Festival were amongst some of the most widely heralded. The Sunday Times praises her as "a rare example of a young conductor at once brilliant and not in the least showing off."
Next month, Elim returns to conduct the HK Phil, and will join Prof. Daniel Chua in a 'Music in Words' dialogue. Off the podium, she will share her journey, plans, and insights for Hong Kong's aspiring musicians.
