GATE33 Gallery at AIRSIDE presents WEIRD SENSATION FEELS GOOD: The World of ASMR, an immersive multi-sensory exhibition launching in Hong Kong's Art March 2025. Co-presented by ArkDes, the Swedish Centre for Architecture and Design, and the Design Museum, London, Hong Kong will be the first Asian city to host this acclaimed exhibition.
This first Asian tour co-curated by GATE33 Gallery includes newly commissioned Hong Kong-themed ASMR works. The local interpretations provide a unique perspective on this global cultural phenomenon, offering visitors a fresh immersive sensory experience.
The exhibition explores ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response) – a physical sensation of deep calm and euphoria, often described as a "tingling" in the body. Across the internet, innumerable and ever-evolving works of ASMR garner billions of views. This cultural movement has grown into a global phenomenon that is, uniquely, rooted in kindness, empathy, and self-care.
This award-winning experience features over 40 works by ASMRtists, contemporary artists, and designers from around the world. At its heart sits the "ASMR Arena" - built from over a kilometre of woven pillow - where visitors can immerse themselves in carefully curated audio-visual ASMR experiences. The exhibition also debuts Hong Kong-themed ASMR works capturing the unique atmosphere of local culture and daily life, with opportunities for visitors to create their own ASMR pieces.
Curator: James Taylor-Foster (curator of contemporary architecture and design at ArkDes)
Co-curator for the Hong Kong Commissioned Works: Daisy Chu (curator of AIRSIDE, Nan Fung Group)
