Hosted by local jazz vocalist Rachel Sung, this music appreciation session explores the golden age of French chanson music from the 40s to 60s, featuring works by iconic artists such as Édith Piaf and Charles Trenet. Starting off with French vocal music and its connection with jazz, the event looks at the development and relationship between French chansons and American swing jazz, examining how the two styles have influenced each other. Classic pieces of French vocal jazz music such as "La Vie En Rose" and "La Mer" will be performed live during the event. Come find out about rhythm, phrasing, storytelling and more to level up your understanding and appreciation of these genres.
