The balustrades along the verandahs of Tai Kwun's Barrack Block are a distinctive architectural element of this historic site. With this workshop, you have a chance to make and bring home your own mini-baluster, which also doubles as a candle holder!
To celebrate Tai Kwun's 7th anniversary, we are launching a special edition of the Baluster DIY Workshop. In this parent-child activity, you can explore different visual elements to make unique finishes. Create a sense of dynamism and vibrancy to your baluster by splashing colours across it, and add another dimension to your handicraft experience.
Additionally, this programme offers a unique architecture tour. Learn about the original construction and later restoration of the balustrades as well as broader issues about materiality, craftmanship, design and the meaning of the historic architectural compound. Workshop will be conducted in Cantonese.
