Andrew Ling

Hong Kong-native Andrew Ling is a concert violist and violinist, conductor, and music educator. Currently principal violist of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, his appearances as concert soloist have included the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the Seoul Philharmonic, the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, and the China Film Orchestra.

A versatile and an all-round musician, Mr. Ling has also brought his musicianship to conducting engagements with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra, Kunming Symphony Orchestra, Finland's Seinajoki City Orchestra and Kuopio Symphony Orchestra.

Mr. Ling is active on the chamber music scene and a regular at the Hong Kong International Chamber Music Festival. Mr. Ling has played with many renowned musicians including Cho-Liang Lin, Jaime Laredo, Ning Feng and The Shanghai Quartet, and was a guest artist at the Banff Center Chamber Music Residency in 2009.

Mr. Ling's journey with music began at an early age. At age six he studied violin with the late Professor Lin Yaoji at the Central Conservatory of Music, Beijing, and soon began touring internationally with the Hong Kong Yip's Children's Choir. He went on to pursue Violin Performance at Indiana University under Henryk Kowalski, Mauricio Fuks, Alan de Veritch and the late Ik-hwan Bae, and later also trained under Cho-Liang Lin at Rice University.

Mr. Ling plays on a violin and viola made by Gaetano Sgarabotto and uses Thomastik strings, proudly sponsored by Thomastik Infeld.
