Fung Chi Chuen Frederick

Fung Chi Chuen Frederick finished his Master degree at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts under the tutelage of Lorenzo Iosco and Andrew Simon. His teachers in his university life included Chen Chiu-yuan, Fanny Lau Chui-shan. He is an active orchestral player and has been selected as principal clarinet in a collabaration programme with players from the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts Symphony Orchestra under Maestro Jaap van Zweden for two years. He has also played for different orchestras such as the City Chamber Orchestra, Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra, and more. He also appears in foreign orchestras as a freelance player such as Sun Symphony Orchestra. In his graduation year, Frederick received the SAR Philarmonic Scholarship and won the concerto competition at the HKAPA and performed the Fantasy on La Tratviata with Acadamy Arts Symphony Orchestra.
Frederick has performed in various masterclasses with Andreas Ottensamer (principal clarinet of the Berlin Philharmonic), Ricardo Morales, Romain Guyot, and more. He also joined the music seminar in Kitakaruizawa during the four summers studying with two teachers from The Juilliard School, Charles Neidich and Ayako Oshima.
As a chamber musician, Frederick represented the HKAPA Wind Ensemble and obtained First Prize at the 2019 Thailand Wind Symphony Competition (TIWSC) Open Class (Small Wind Ensemble) and was the First Prize Winner of 2019 International Music Competition ‘Brussels’ Grand Prize Virtuoso.
