Jan Curious

Singer-songwriter, vocalist of R.O.O.T and former vocalist of Chochukmo. His music genre wide-ranged from R&B to Rock to Jazz. His music conveys purely his personal emotion and feelings towards norms and society. His passion in music didn’t stop here, he co-founded TONE MUSIC, a platform where not only for main stream artist, but also for indie and jazz musicians to participate.

In 2008, Jan started the band Chochukmo, when at the same time he was creating a superhero comic, and was looking for ideas for a superhero name for the protagonist. He decided to combine the word “curious” with his own first name to name the protagonist. To him, the name does not only suit his personality, but also reflects his own expectations for himself. He then decided to use the same name as his stage name--this is the story behind the birth of “Jan Curious”.

In 2005, Jan completed his study in graphic design and illustration from the Northbrook College in the U.K., and returned to Hong Kong. While developing his music career, he was also active in participating in various art projects, and was a frequent collaborator in crossover activities by different brands. In 2015, Jan held his first solo exhibition in Coolala in Sheung Wan, and was invited by Hong Kong Open Printshop to participate in POP UP PRESS! at Freespace Happening. In 2016, he was invited to take part in the exhibition SEW (Safe for Work/So Fuxkin What), along with Wing Shya, Prodip Leung, Yeung Hok Tak, and other well known artists from Japan and Australia. In 2018, he was commissioned by Madame Tussauds to travel to London and paint Lady Gaga’s wax figure. The work is currently shown in Madame Tussauds Hong Kong.

In his music career, Jan was the frontman of the band Chochukmo from 2008 to 2018. The band was known for its groundbreaking music style and explosive live performances. The band was described as "The most charismatic band to have emerged in southern China in recent years" by TIME Magazine. Recently, Jan formed the band R.O.O.T. with jazz guitarist Teriver, creating R&B and hip hop music. Upon its establishment, the band has been performing in various occasions such as Freespace Happening, shows at PMQ and K11. Jan has also been dedicated to developing his solo project. Working with Tom, bass player of Chochukmo, he formed the duo Jan Curious & tombeats. and published an EP consisting three songs, along with MVs. Jan sang for “Let Us Be The One”, soundtrack of the film Project Gutenberg, was nominated for Best Original Film Song in the 38th Hong Kong Film Awards.
