Jonathan Katz

New York native Jonathan Katz discovered jazz at age 11 and played with Count Basie Orchestra great Frank Foster and other top players in his teens. Jonathan has worked as pianist with jazz legends Ray Brown, Kenny Burrell, Tom Harrell, Eddie Henderson, and Lew Tabackin, the NHK Symphony and Tokyo Philharmonic. His versatility as a pianist has earned him recordings and tours with groups in various genres, including jazz, world music, and Afro-Cuban. He has also recorded with enka superstar Itsuki Hiroshi, and toured with and arranged for bossa nova songstress Lisa Ono. Jonathan leads Tokyo Big Band, a 19-piece ensemble of top Tokyo-area musicians for which he has written over 70 arrangements, and is pianist/keyboardist in Disney World Beat under the baton of Brad Kelley. He is also an avid educator who teaches privately and gives clinics at universities and schools in Japan, the US, Taiwan, and Thailand.
