Woodwind music has long played a pivotal part in French classical music. This year the GWQ concert will feature the guest saxophonist Dr. Chemie Ching, performing Milhaud’s Scaramouche for Saxophone and Wind Quintet, which is a standard in saxophone repertoire but seldom heard with wind quintet accompaniment. Apart from that, the group will also introduce the iconic woodwind masterpiece Françaix’s Quintet No.1, and a newly commissioned work by the local composer Desmond Chen, written specially for this concert.
