Knock knock…
Who's there?
LeeLeeLooLoo~
Box of LeeLeeLooLoo is a container for storing scenes, which is light and portable that easy to share and spread out. What could be included there? A park bench often occupied by wanderers? An unexpected sunset while heading back home? A ferris wheel that works from day to night? It seems that suitable trivial things for the box can be encountered from time to time during aimless drifting. The box may not need to have a fixed shape or size, and it murmured, "As long as I can ensconce into any quiet corner..."
Yeung Sin Man, ‘Silk Reeling’, 2022, Graphite on paper 48x62cm
Perhaps it is hard to describe that the box could be a diary or a medicine cabinet. It is perhaps like a fruit bowl, a good companion for family photos. Even a cherished LeeLeeLooLoo that has been treasured for a long time, still can become an unexpected gift to a dear, maybe it is just about timing. The collector of the box serves as a mediator sometimes, while the LeeLeeLooLoo is like a seed waiting for animal pollination, blending into the scene eventually. When visitors come to rest, they are welcome to open the box and talk about things, trivial things that have not yet been organised and summarised, but are still lovely to exchange with others such as wording on a postcard.
Hazel, ‘May’, 2023, Acrylic on wood panel 32x41cm
Three Hong Kong artists, Cho Wing Ki, Wong Mei Yin, and Yeung Sin Man, who also habitually collect small items like stickers and pins, present their recent drawings, paintings and printmaking in this exhibition. Cho Wing Ki uses art to create memories and connection with the neighbourhood. Observing the moments of resting, she records the breath in her practice. Wong Mei Yin has been staying in Japan in recent years and watches the everyday life of others from the perspective of a stranger, she turns all of them into imagining scenarios that are familiar but have never existed. Yeung Sin Man likes to explore the idle places in the city and collects the remaining light and shadow as companions, transforming them into cosy scenes in her eyes.
