Zheng Yang

Received his master’s degree with distinction and bachelor’s degree with first class honour from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts ( HKAPA ), where he studied under Michael Ma and Ivan Chan. Mr. Zheng is currently teaching violin at the Junior Department of HKAPA. He is associate concertmaster of the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong ( since 2020 ), a freelance player of Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Jaap van Zweden ( since 2019 ) and Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra ( since 2018 ) and the founding member of Bauhinia Trio ( since 2018 ).

Mr. Zheng was the first violin of the Gloucester String Quartet and the concertmaster of the Academy Symphony Orchestra. He was also a two-time winner of the concerto competition at the Academy. Mr. Zheng was also selected to perform at a number of master classes organized by the Academy and the Hong Kong Art Festival, including Ning Feng, Cho-Liang Lin, Leonidas Kavakos, and Renaud Capuçon. He was a participant of the Kent/Blossom Music Festival in 2011 and 2012, where he performed with the Cleveland Orchestra. His previous Gloucester String Quartet received first prize in the Schoenfeld International String Competition in 2013. In 2015, he performed on a ten-day tour to the Royal Academy of Music and the Wells Cathedral School in the UK. In 2016, he collaborated with the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble to perform at Tongyeong International Music Festival. During the same year, he participated in the McGill International String Quartet Academy. In 2017, he was invited to perform in the HKSAR 20th anniversary concert series in London. He took part in the Aspen music festival in Colorado on a full scholarship. In 2018, Mr. Zheng participated in the world premiere recording of Mahler symphony No.1 for the chamber ensemble. In 2019 and 2020, Mr. Zheng collaborated with Hong Kong String Orchestra in the Southeast Asia tour and South Korea tour. In 2021, Mr. Zheng participated in the HKGNA Music Festival and played with Jing Wang, concertmaster of Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, in a chamber concert. In 2022, he played in Musicus Fest with cellist Trey Lee in Jockey Club Musicus Heritage Alive Concert Series.
